The Boaters Inn has bagged an enviable spot on the stretch of The Thames between Kingston and Teddington Lock.
I can't eat my five a day, because those darn biscuits keep getting in the way.
I've figured it out: the reason I'm not eating my five-a-day is because I keep being distracted by the box of Maple Cream Cookies sitting in my cupboard. Except that they managed to move to my desk.
For now, this has become my new reason for omitting those carrots, apples and other brain-enhancing foods, from my daily diet. Don't get me wrong - I always manage a few fruit & veg, but never, ever five. These biscuits also must be eaten. Not so much because they are sugary and good, but because, as their name might suggest, they are from Canada. It would be a terrible waste, if after racking up a good few airmiles, the Maple Cream Cookies actually never got to be savoured. Although I know you wouldn't want me to, I would blame myself. So instead, I have been dutifully making the most of these biscuits, which come cutely shaped as maple leaves, sandwiched together with a slathering of maple cream.
They are sweet, and most people managed just one when I offered them around on opening. I think my body may be gearing up for a dose of diabetes, as I find it incredibly easy to eat five in one sitting. And now I'm sitting on my own. Did I mention the box had moved to my desk...?

maple cookies
There's a shop near me that always has those maple cookies on the coffee cart, and I admit that I sometimes go in just for the cookies. I don't even like maple that much, but those things are awesome. (As I guess they should be; if anybody can do maple cookies, I suppose Canada could.)
five a day
Oh, yes, I do know something about cookies and other sugary goodies kicking out fruity/veggie stuff from my daily menu. But you know you can combine both.... Healthy and crisp Bramley apples with juicy, full of antioxidants, damsons... baked under a thick, crunchy, buttery (good for your brain - butter contains lecithin), oaty (everyone knows oat flakes are healthy), sugary (eh, brown-sugary...) crumble and served with real, untreated, organic jersey cream. Or pumpkin muffins for breakfast. Did I mention the rich, granola topping? Butter it might contain, but don't forget granola... and the pumpkin in the batter... Or shorbread from Baker&Spice cookbook - with a date filling... That is how I manage to squeeze in my five-a-day. Who cares there's usually a rich amount of things buttery, flowery, sugary involved. After all, nobody said life was easy and it does need sweetening up a little bit.
