From the 1st – 31st October, the humanitarian charity Action Against Hunger will be running their “Fight Hunger. Eat Out” campaign to raise funds for the current crises in Sudan, Chad and Somalia.

Hundreds of restaurants all over the UK have already signed up to support “Fight Hunger. Eat Out, including 1 Lombard Street, St John, Caffé Caldesi and A Touch of Novelli. Family-friendly groups like La Tasca, Giraffe and Fishworks have already signed up to support the international campaign that raises vital funds to help families around the world in their daily struggle to feed themselves.

‘Fight hunger. Eat out’ month coincides with World Food Day on 16th October. Last year’s campaign saw the restaurant industry raise over £140,000 with all funds going directly to Action Against Hunger. This year hundreds of restaurants will be helping the charity to reach their target of £250,000 and make ‘‘Fight hunger. Eat out’ month the biggest ever.

In its eighth year, chefs who have backed Restaurants Against Hunger include Antonio Carluccio, Raymond Blanc, Rick Stein, Giorgio Locatelli and Tom Aikens to name but a few. 2006 saw food writers such as Fay Maschler, Jeremy Wayne, Charles Campion and Toby Young support the campaign. Restaurants Against Hunger is supported by Caffé Musetti, Harden’s, Restaurant magazine, olive Magazine and Opentable.

Faye Matthews of Action Against Hunger comments: “The £140,000 raised through Restaurants Against Hunger 2006 went a long way in helping us in our fight to end world hunger. When you consider that just £27 can save the life of a severely malnourished child, we are truly grateful to all those who supported us last year and urge them to get involved again this October.”
