Brogdale Farm fruit festival dates

Brogdale Farm fruit festival dates

After the successes of their 2009 Harvest Festival events, Brogdale Farm has announced its 2010 dates. The farm is home to the National Fruit Collections, one of the largest collections of fruit varieties in the world. In 2010 Brogdale Farm will be celebrating cherries, plums, nuts and apples (including cider). April 17 - 18th this year will see the farm celebrating the onset of Spring blossom.

The Collection, (which includes almost 4000 varieties of fruit) includes the Decio apple that dates back to 450AD, and the black Worcester pear that is said to have been used at Henry II’s coronation breakfast. The festival dates are designed to involve the whole family, and will give people the chance to discover the delights of fruit with tastings and gardening advice available.

Brogdale Farm is located in Faversham, Kent and is owned by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and strives to protect long-forgotten fruit varieties for possible use in the future.
