Sustainable Restaurant Association launches

Sustainable Restaurant Association

The Sustainable Restaurant Association launched this month in response to a growing interest in sustainability from both restaurants and consumers alike.

Until now, there has been no industry body to provide consistent guidance and support. The Association fills this void and is able to give restaurants all the sustainability information they require.

So what exactly is sustainability and what does it mean? Sustainability is about a business managing not only the financial but also the social and environmental impact of its operations. By taking sustainable action, restaurants can make a huge difference on issues such as climate change, animal welfare and food waste.

The Association’s purpose is also to provide consumers with a way of locating restaurants that are serious about sustainability. Participating restaurants are actively sourcing local and seasonal produce, reducing waste, increasing energy efficiency or serving Fair Trade. Founder members include Canteen, Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons and Carluccio’s.

A launch was held this month in London, attracting a guest list which included Jay Rayner, Giles Coren and Oliver Rowe.
