Tom Kitchin's Seasonal Kitchen

Eat Fresh, Eat Seasonal campaign launch with Tom Kitchin

Edinburgh-based Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin has launched a national campaign aimed at highlighting the benefits of buying fresh, seasonal food. Head Chef at The Kitchin Restaurant in Leith, he champions using seasonal produce: ‘We have access to an outstanding natural larder here in Scotland and every season brings with it different, delicious ingredients to try’.

As consumers become more discerning with regards to what they are purchasing, more people are choosing to eat seasonally for a variety of reasons including health and environmental benefits. To ensure you are buying fresh and seasonal produce, always check food labels to see where the food comes from and be proactive in asking restaurants and stores where they source their food. Farmer’s markets are brilliant sources of inspiration where local producers sell their supplies directly, and make the most of fresh fare when it’s at it’s best. Foodies can also look for specialist independent shops where they can vouch for the origin of the food that is sold.

Tom Kitchin is lending his support to the Scottish Government’s ‘Eat Fresh, Eat Seasonal’ initiative which is encouraging people to support Scotland’s food and drink industry and take notice of where their food actually comes from.
